Tom Hughes
ZEN Project Coordinator, Malaysia

 

Tom HughesTom Hughes received his Bachelor of Science in Development Studies and Natural Resources from the University of East Anglia. He went on to train and work as an arborist, before taking on the role of Expedition Leader on a collaborative conservation project with the Malaysian Wildlife Department studying the flora and fauna of the Perhentian Islands, Malaysia.

In June 2005 Tom began work for CCM on the Nipah virus research project in Malaysia, researching the modes of transmission of Nipah Virus by trapping and sampling Pteropus bats, monitoring their population size and movement. In 2007 Tom took on the new role of coordinating the Zoonotic Emergence Network in Malaysia. Tom hasalso worked for CCM in Bangladesh and Cameroon and independently in Australia on a variety of conservation projects. He is currently studying for a Masters in Public Health and the Environment at the London School of Tropical Medicine.
