Since the ancient greeks, physicists or scientists studying the Natural World have sought a Theory of Everything, a comprehensive scientific and mathematical model that would unify all the known, fundamental forces of Nature. At the CCM we are also striving towards a theory that would explain emerging infectious diseases (EIDs) by integrating fields of science as diverse as ecology, wildlife and human biology, evolutionary biology of viruses, and socio-anthropology. By combining spatially explicit modeling with traditional mathematical models of disease dynamics, we believe we can create a Theory of Everything for EIDs - that would better predict the likelihood of EIDs.
