Georgina Mace is the current Director of Science for the Institute of Zoology at the Zoological Society of London.  After graduating from Liverpool University in 1976 Georgina went on to obtain her doctorate from the University of Sussex .  She has since held several zoological-related research posts, and has written and co-authored a number of scientific papers. Georgina 's main area of research is conservation

Georgina Macebiology, emphasizing evolutionary, ecological and genetic aspects for the formulation of conservation policy.  She is particularly interested in the assessment and management of populations of threatened species, and in the dynamics of extinction pressures.  Georgina currently sits on the Council of the RSPB, the IUCN Red List Committee, and the Natural Environment Research Council's Science & Technology Board, and between 1997 and 2001 she edited the Cambridge journal Animal Conservation.  She was awarded the OBE in 1998, and in 2002 was elected a Fellow of The Royal Society and has been a member of Durrell Wildlife's Council since 1998.

Research interests

Dr. Mace's research interests include conservation biology, emphasizing evolutionary, ecological and genetic aspects, for the formulation of conservation policy. She is particularly interested in the assessment and management of populations of threatened species, and in the dynamics of extinction pressures.
